What’s On Guide: Awesome mindfulness activities in London this summer

Summer’s here! At the time of writing, our centre in Vauxhall is basking in glorious 25-degree sunshine, and Londoners are shedding clothes like snakes do their skin. So let’s make the most of it, shall we? With so many festivals, pop-ups and activities happening throughout the capital over the summer months, it can be overwhelming to try and fit all the good stuff in. Of course, we’re always on the lookout for an event that will be fun, help us stay mindful, and introduce us to likeminded people – and we know a lot of our readers are, too! So without further ado, here’s our pick of London’s best mindfulness events this summer…

Disconnect for a day
Press reset on your mind before summer really kicks into gear with this one-day retreat in the grounds of Imperial College London, run in partnership between Akanista Mindfulness and Chaplaincy Multi-Faith Centre. With a full day of classes covering mindfulness, the science behind it, various guided meditations, walking meditations, yogic exercises and much more, you can drop in for a few hours or spend the whole day giving yourself the chance to “pause, rest and be still”.

After a picnic at the common’s Caesar’s Well (a natural spring in use since 25AD), there’ll be meditations, a drum circle and Reiki session to help you get your mind back to its centre. Weather permitting, this one…!

Aside from the free festival bill headlined by ‘90s trip-hop gurus Morcheeba, there are public meditation and yoga sessions in the historic Crystal Palace Park, drop-in sessions on mindfulness for kids, free qigong classes and a whole lot more.

Leave the city and immerse yourself in silence
The Mindfulness Project is a not-for-profit group that aims to spread the use of mindfulness in the capital, and in early-August, they’re running a five-day silent retreat that we just had to flag up here. Getting out of the city and heading to the idyllic village of West Lexham in Norfolk, you’ll be guided by some of the world’s most experienced mindfulness practitioners in a five-day programme designed to help you connect better with yourself. It’s certainly pricier than the other options here, but if you’re really looking to immerse yourself in something this summer, this could be just the ticket…
WHAT: Meditation & Mindful Retreat With James & Jane Baraz
WHEN: 7th – 12th August
PRICE: £535 – £635
