The Floatworks began in 1993 in a small unit in Clink Street SE1. We built two floatation rooms and installed two of the old 'coffin-style' float tanks. Despite the tanks' unappealing design, a few brave customers took the plunge and quickly told their friends about their floating experience.
Soon, we were fully booked every day and decided to buy a third tank. We thought that the extra capacity would be enough to cater to demand, but within weeks we had to turn custom away again.
Then we received notice from our landlord that he would not be renewing our lease, as he wanted to sell the building to a property developer. In 2000, we were lucky to find the perfect building just around the corner in Thrale Street,
our current location.
We built six floatation suites, making us the
biggest floatation centre in the world. In our quest for the perfect float experience, we also installed
the next generation of float tank.
By 2009, we had extended our premises to include three more tanks. The nine tanks were constantly busy, with over 1,500 customers each month.
